Resumo

The aim of the current case report is to describe hemangioma in a male Pale-breasted thrush (Turdus leucomelas) of unidentified age, which was saved from  wild animal trafficking and sent to the Wildlife Recovery Center “Núcleo da Floresta”, SP, Brazil. The bird presented peduncular mass on the right cheek, which it was surgically removed and subjected to histopathological analysis. Results have evinced tortuous and anastomosing vascular channels lined by a single layer of typical endothelial cells and filled with erythrocytes. The aforementioned channels presented collagenous and discrete stroma, as well as endothelial cells showing non-distinguishable cytoplasmic boundaries, fusiform cytoplasm, elongated nucleus and dense chromatin. No cellular atypia or mitotic figures were observed. Histological description enabled classifying the analyzed mass as hemangioma. The current study was pioneer in describing hemangioma in birds belonging to genus Turdus, as well as to describe neoplasia in Turdus leucomelas.
